چکیده

DA Classen. Antibiotic bead pouch dressing. Can J Plast Surg 1996;4(4):199-202. The antibiotic bead pouch is a dressing consisting of antibiotic laden polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) beads placed in a wound, which is covered by a porous membrane (Opsite). This paper outlines the method, rationale and results of the use of this dressing technique for extensive wounds before definitive wound closure. A case series review of 15 consecutive patients with a variety of soft tissue wounds that were managed with an antibiotic bead pouch dressing is presented. The method of dressing has been a useful and successful adjunct to the management of extensive infected and contaminated wounds.

Negative pressure wound therapy reduces the effectiveness of traditional local antibiotic depot in a large complex musculoskeletal wound animal model.

OBJECTIVES Negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) has been used to help manage open wounds. Surgeons also often use local antibiotic depot as adjunctive therapy in an effort to reduce infection rates. These 2 techniques have been reported to be used in conjunction, but there are little data to support this practice. We sought to compare the contamination levels of wounds treated with the common...

Antibiotic impregnated beads in open fractures. A report on the technique and possible applications in military surgery.

The use of antibiotic impregnated beads has been shown to be a valuable adjunct in the prevention of infection in open fractures. The bead pouch technique employs these beads within the wound, producing high local levels of antibiotic in a moist environment. This effectively inhibits bacterial colonisation and wound infection whilst preventing desiccation of structures such as bone and tendons....

The literature suggests a wide variety of approaches to achieve this goal, but few studies report outcomes on the use of topical steroids. The purpose of this case study is to describe the results of a protocol developed to me...

Critical appraisal of air pouch infection model in rats.

The aim of this study was to assess the efficacy and pharmacokinetic profiles of gentamicin, vancomycin, and levofloxacin in a rat air pouch model, in which Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC 25293) was used as the test organism. Antibiotic treatments (i.p.) were started 1 hour after bacterial inoculation and continued for 5 days. Bacterial counts and antibiotic concentrations were determined in pouch...
